 Title Research: Lawrence of Arabia

To research titles, we chose to use the website Art of The Titles for this blog. We chose the movies Lawrence of Arabia and answered a few questions to give us a good understanding of movie titles.

  1. What titles are displayed during the opening sequences? Titles displayed are the main image of what company made the film in the beginning, which is Columbia. The rest are mainly a guy fixing his bike, with credits to who made the film shown on the right. Not much else is shown except at the end where the person in the opening sequence drives off.
  2. What images are prioritized in the opening sequence? Images prioritized is the guy fixing up the motorcycle. The credits are also heavily shown.
  3. What connotations do these images carry? Connotations carried are mainly neutral. Not much is shown in the images. The ideas behind the images may be words like Unusual, Mysterious, and Confusion.
  4. How does the film establish a feeling of the genre from the outset? The feeling is established at the beginning by having dramatic music played in the beginning. The music is associated with drama and feelings of suspense and mystery. Those are commonly felt in dramas.
  5. What strategies are used to ensure the film appeals to its target audience? Not much except a top view of the character fixing the bike and is ready to drive off. Dramatic music in the beginning also appeals to the target audience.
  6. How has technology been used effectively? You want to consider camera angles, transitions and editing techniques.                                                                                          Technologies used were camera angles and a little bit of editing. The camera is mainly overhead or is a Aerial Shot of the person until the end where it transitions into a Tracking shot when the person drives off into the distance and shows an establishing shot. Cutting is also used when moving from the Aerial shot to the Tracking shot.

The opening sequence is relatively dry compared to other dramas. It doesn't show much besides credits and an unknown character doing nothing except getting his motorcycle ready. Though the camera angles being used is a little unique as it is an Ariel shot but nothing else is really used.
