Image
Title Research: Trainspotting Picking a more recent movie, we decided to use Art of the Titles again to find a newer movie to compare to the old ones we looked at before. This movie was made in 1996 so it'll be closer to movies made today. To analyze the elements in the opening sequence, we chose to answer a few questions below to give us an understanding of the titles. What titles are displayed during the opening sequences? Titles displayed are the main characters and the situations they are in. It shows the cast of characters and their names and things that they are doing. Some of things are dark and isn't appropriate but that is the approach of the movie. The end of the opening sequence shows the movie title in a dark screen.  What images are prioritized in the opening sequence? Images prioritized is one of the characters running away from the cops. Image
Titles Research: The Big Country For further research, we decided to pick an older film. With this, we can see the history in film development. We can compare this to the more recent drama films and see which methods of film making is similar and what is different. Using the Art of The Titles to find the movie and to figure this out, we answered a few questions below. What titles are displayed during the opening sequences? Displayed is images of horses and a wagon. The horses are carrying the wagon that has people riding on it. It shows them following a trail throughout the whole opening sequence until they reach a house at the end. Throughout the whole thing credits are shown.  What images are prioritized in the opening sequence? Primary images shown are the horses and the path they follow. Title Research: Watch the Titles Website: AICE Media Studies

Image
Watch the Titles Website Research For coming up with a title for our final task, we decided to do further research. Our last blog was about one website that stood out to us. This is good of course, but more information is needed. This is so we have a better understanding of titles. We found a website called Watch The Titles that give us more titles to look at. This website contains similar information as the first one, but has some unique things. It has student projects and what other students have come up with for titles. This is useful as we can compare our titles that we will come up with to other students to see where we are on their level. It also has more abstract titles in my opinion, with one looking really ominous. This website is very similar but has slight differences compared to the other website we looked at.

AICE Media Studies: Genre Research: One Night In Miami

Image
One Night In Miami is a movie that also can be put in the drama perspective. This movie premise goes into a fictional idea of if the night of Cassius Clay's (Muhammed Ali) biggest boxing match for worlds greatest, him, Sam Cooke, Malcom X, and Jim Brown all had a summit in a hotel room. This movie fits into this genre by adding serious topics into the film. Throughout the movie the 4 icons are celebrating and everything is good, but Malcom (who is the most activist of them all) puts a ton of pressure onto Sam for not using his voice to fight racist norms at the time. Now this movie was great and I enjoyed it a lot, this movie is almost the opposite of To The Bone (the other movie I researched). That movie had sprinkles of funny and light handed moments when most of it is serious, but this movie is mainly funny and has serious undertones. This works out because it's significant points fits in the genre and makes the movie great. One element I disliked about this movie referrin...

AICE Media Studies: Genre Research: El Camino

Image
This movie was great, It acts like a sequel to the award-winning Breaking Bad T.V. show. It's all about the loose ends that are not shown in the ending of the T.V. show and actually serves justice to those who deserved it in the film. This movie is all work and no play, what I mean is that this is one thousand percent serious at all times. It has action in it and other themes like western and crime-drama, but it is to its core, a drama. It doesn't let its foot off the pedal for one moment and always keeps you on edge, worried, or entertained until the very end. The part I enjoyed is unlike To The Bone, this movie can be 100% serious with no comedy and still be amazing in my opinion, that's because of background knowledge and prior information and love for characters before the movie came out. And also it is completely fictional whereas To The Bone had fictional aspects in it but ultimately touched on a very real illness. The aspects of this movie that I believe wont fit in...

AICE Media Studies: Genre Research: To The Bone

Image
To The Bone is a movie that fits perfectly into the drama genre. It's about a young woman struggling with her severe anorexia and eating disorders, she's had life threatening experiences and is placed into a group home for those similar to her. Through the people there she learns about making the effort into getting better and the consequences of giving up. When you're close with people who have eating disorders or other illnesses, you try to be sympathetic but you cannot fully grasp their way of thinking and mindset because you don't have that problem. This is a really great movie and helped me appreciate the ones I know who struggle with this and to understand more about it. About the genre, this is not a movie with any action in it. It contains language so it's already not family friendly, and is not any horror-ish. This movie is adult, it doesn't cut corners, it's serious and funny at times, and it always had you worried like a horror movie does, but n...

Genre Decision: AICE Media Studies

Image
Our decided genre: For our final task, we have decided to choose a genre. We have decided collectively to pick Drama. Our reasons of this is as follows. Since we decided our pitch should be the 2nd one, we believe drama would fit this pitch perfectly. Our second pitch is about a basketball tournament with important things on the line. We believe that having a drama genre would make the movie better for the audience. For example, a part of the movie could include a dangerous situation for the character. They would have a high risk of getting hurt or something bad to happen to them. Adding elements from drama movies would help. It would portray feelings of suspense and being anxious to the audience. This would attract the audience more. They would feel something is on the line and hope for the best for the character. Another reason is because we have a better understanding of how drama movies work. We've watched plenty of drama movies before so we see this as a plus. It would be ea...

AICE Media Studies: Genre Research Action and Inspiration

Image
2 more genres that can fit into this pitch category are maybe action and inspirational. These genres fit really well with our pitch because we can still add so many elements in it. The inspirational genre is a little over saturated but it works every time. Most of the time this genre is paired perfectly with children's or family movies. But we can diverge away from those attached genres with our other sub genres. With the tournament aspect of the pitch you can clearly see the inspiration element in it. The next genre is action, this genre is not so much into this pitch but we could add maybe a mugging scene or something like that (while staying in the guidelines of course). We are able to add some sort of action scene to flow with that sub genre but ultimately not enough for it to be a first choice.

Genre Research: AICE Media Studies

Horror Genre:  To get an understanding of what type of film we want, we started to research different genres. One genre in particular is the Horror genre. This is one of the more popular ones in film. We wanted to see if this could fit our second pitch. For our research, we made a power point covering the details. The power point below shows.  For the PowerPoint, it describes the key aspects of the Horror genre. It covers the lighting seen throughout films with the horror genre. Things like Up-lighting and Spot-lighting are described in detail and how they are used. The information is presented in an clear way. We also cover the various camera angles used, such as High and Low angles. These are also described in detail in the PowerPoint. Different types of camera movements unique to horror films are also explained as well. Another is the Mise-en-scene and the way it is presented and used in horror films. The scary and ominous sounds used in horror films are also in deta...

Our Pitch for our final task: AICE Media Studies

Image
Pitch 1: A new illegal narcotic hits the streets as well as that the market for illegal substances has opened in a digital form.   This pitch interests us because we think films based on moving of illegal substances captivate more people and is more interesting to film about. We think this would also be interesting to make a film about with all the action involved. Especially with this new modern twist it will be sure to excite. You could catch some people even reminiscing and looking back on some influences. They can notice elements from their favorite crime-based T.V Shows and movies. All while keeping the story fresh and exhilarating to watch. Along with this we can safely create a video about illegal substances without showing any props for illegal substances. This works great so we can tell a short story while playing by the Cambridge rules in place.   Pitch 2:  A young kid growing up in the streets finds a passion in basketball which leads him to fi...

Starting the Final Task: AICE Media Studies

Image
Intro and Group: Hello. It is now the time to work on the final project of this class. I am Joseph Gonzalez and I am a student at Fort Lauderdale Highschool. I am a sophomore about halfway through the school year. I am taking this class and will be working on this project with not just myself but another student. Skye Kallus Hill and I will be working on this together. We have decided that instead of working alone, we should work together. Working together always seems to work in our favor.  Previously, we managed to do well on our last project together. I have known Skye for a long time. So our ability to work and understand each other is high as we have experience with projects like these. The main reason why we are working together is so we can come up with a better product. As the saying goes, great mind think alike. We see media similarly. This will help us come up with ideas during our final task. We have also experienced similar types of media. There are some shows and movie...
